WRITTEN BY: DILLON
Today, I would like to talk about probably the most controversial subject in the Christian religion…. Hell. Earlier today, I was attending my Global Studies class, and we were talking about what characteristics apply to different cultures. We were on the subject of religion. We had already discussed Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and we were talking about Christianity. My teacher began striking up a conversation with the class about how he was involved in regular church activities. Some of the activities included communion and being and usher. He went on to say that the foundation of Christianity is the basic teachings of heaven and hell. I thought we were on a good topic because I saw this as an opportunity to bring Gods word into school. But as he became more involved in the discussion, he began saying things that made me realize how important it is to discuss the subject of hell. He said “I was taught that God is loving, merciful and forgiving. If this is true, then sending people to hell would contradict the whole teachings of a forgiving God. If God gave men the option to make choices, then it would be cruel and tyrant to lie to people and send them to hell for exercising the rights that God gave them to begin with.” He then went on to say “You are all good kids none of you deserve to go to hell. If I have anything to say in the matter, you will all go to heaven.” He then asked the students what they thought about it. One student stated “I agree, God is loving, he would never send us to hell.” My heart was heavily burdened because my teacher was teaching what is known as a false doctrine. A false doctrine is when you take God’s word, and twist it into a false pretense that suits your wants and desires, so you can continue living the way you choose without fear of suffering consequences. After that Global Studies class, I realized how important it was to discuss hell, because it is probably the most misinterpreted place in the bible. I know that many people this same concept in their head that hell does not exist. As popular as this belief is, this is a lie. We all know that our present day society doesn’t allow much tolerance for Christian ethics. Since this generation is practically religion less, the only thing people ever hear about God is that he is loving, Forgiving, and merciful. And that if you’re good you will go to heaven.” Yes, it is true that God is loving and forgiving. But no, forgiveness is not just handed out like trophies at a little league game. In order to receive the lords grace & mercy, you have to accept Jesus Christ as your personal lord & savior. You have to earnestly repent of your sins, turn away from them, and seek Gods wonderful glory. I have to comment that one statistic I find most astonishing is that most of the people that deny hell are the most active and frequently attending church members. To deny hell is just a temporary, false sense of security people use to make themselves comfortable while seeking the riches of this world. God said “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul” (Mark 8:36).God says as clearly as can be that if your heart is seeking the riches of this world, you will not inherit his kingdom. God also says “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." (Revelation 21:8). Now listen to these words spoken by the king of kings himself. “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Well, if they don’t inherit Gods kingdom, were do they go? If you’re not in Heaven, then the only other place you can go is hell. But there is still hope for those of you who are lost. If you continue to 1 Corinthians 6:11, is says “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” Key word to remember is Were. This means that you can not continue to be any these things if you wish to enter Gods kingdom. It is through repentance, trust in the savior, and being sanctified that Jesus can save you from your sin so that you can enter Heaven. Answer this question? If there was no hell, tell me were the murderers, rapist, false prophets, liars, ect deserve to go. Do you think they deserve to reap Gods riches when they lived their lives according to their own will. Let me present you with a relatable scenario. Imagine that you were a true Christian. You dedicated every breath you had into preparation for the day you faced God. You by all means earned your way into heaven, yet right there next to you is an un forgiven sinner. He wallowed in lust, worshipped false gods, denied Christ, lied unmercifully, and idolized himself. Even as an un forgiven sinner, God allowed this man to enter into his kingdom. How would that make you feel? A man who literally broke all 10 commandments was able to reap the same eternal benefits while on earth, you suffered tribulation, persecution, temptation, and rejection. What kind of God in his right mind would allow such a thing. Well, not the God of the bible. If you’re a disciple of Christ, keep preaching the gospel, keep following the commandments, for when it’s all said and done, you will enjoy the kingdom that God has promised you. I hope I may have clarified the importance of believing in hell existence and why you need to repent, but if I have not reached everyone who is listening, please answer these 2 questions. What is the purpose of morality (A Conscience) we know that morality is the conscience in our head giving us the basic ability to tell right from wrong. If there was no true reason to make good decisions, then why would we have a conscience. Humans are the only beings in the world that have morality. If there was no greater purpose to make right decisions, then what standards would their be to live by. Why would God set standards if there was no true reason to follow them. Why would we need the disciples and missionaries to preach Gods word if everyone is guaranteed acceptance into heaven literally just by “living it up.” And what about Judgment Day? Why would There need to be a Judgment Day if everyone is allowed into heaven? The answer is simple…. There is a hell. A theory that is becoming more and more popular is that hell is on earth, and that we are serving our punishment on earth. People probably made this speculation because the world has gone corrupt. People are being murdered for the most obscene of reasons, unwed teens are becoming mothers as young as 12 years old, there is genocide, racial segregation, terrorist destroying the lives of millions of families, and a world war going on in Iraq. As major as these events appear, they are only minor inconveniences as to what’s to come. The only reason all these events are occurring is because people turned their backs on the lord, and seek to gratify their own selfish desires by committing all types of sin. These events are a direct result of humans negligent actions towards the word of God. If we followed all of Gods commandments, we would live in a world without terrorism, torture, genocide, suicide, etc. So don’t think God is making all of these things happen. You brought it on yourself by letting Satan deceive you into thinking that the world and all its riches come before God. I really hope that I’ve helped somebody out there who was confused about the gospel and it’s true meaning. I know that there is still somebody who has their doubts. The question many people can’t seem to answer is “How can a loving & forgiving God send us to hell, that’s not holy, it’s unjust”. The fact of the matter is that God is just, and it is because he is holy & just that he will punish the wicked on the Day of Judgment. God would be unjust not to punish the wicked. So please, do not hold off trusting Jesus Christ as your personal lord & savior. Your not guaranteed another day. Your eternal salvation is at risk. If you need more proof of hells existence, open up the bible, read Gods exact words. You’ll be surprised at some of the things people can go to hell for. I know I can’t change everybody’s mind, and for those of you out there who are still in doubt of hell, it is by denying hell that you will be sent to the place you thought didn’t exist. By denying hell, your denying Gods word. You’re basically calling God a liar. But there is still hope. If you trust in Jesus Christ as your personal lord & savior, repent and turn away from your sin, then you can avoid hell altogether. When you put your complete faith in Christ, I’m not going to tell you it will be easy. In fact, true Christians have to endure hardships & struggles. The whole point in being a Christian is to persevere under trials & tribulations in the name of our lord and savior, as said in James 1:12. “Blessed is he who perseveres under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to all who love him” (James 1:12). Accepting Christ in your life and changing so that he is the main focus of your life is the most important decision you will make in life. It isn’t easy making such a drastic change. When in doubt, remember these words from Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”. I also understand for those that are new to Christianity that it is frightening. It’s a huge change, and you don’t know exactly what needs to be done in order to make your heavenly father proud. If you’re a little bit scared to make the transition between the world & Christ, hear what God has to say about it. “Then fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 1:7). So don’t waste another second, tomorrow is not guaranteed. Get on your knees, pray to God to come in your heart, change you from the inside out, repent, and trust in Christ. In the words of our heavenly father “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). And remember, when you allow Christ to live within you, you reap a reward greater then anyone else on the entire planet…. Eternal life. Thank you for listening.
